Waterworks

At the beginning of August, 2021, I spent a week working with my two colleagues Dagmar Dähnert and Britta Makinose at the Old Waterworks Wachtendonk (Lower Rhine). Out of use since 1988, the waterworks building was preserved thanks to a campaign of the Wachtendonk Cultural Circle and the AQUA group. It has been used as a venue for events and exhibitions since 2001.

The morbid charm of this old building and the way it is embedded in nature inspired us to make the waterworks itself the subject of our creative activities. We worked with different techniques such as painting, printing, collage and image tranfer.

The resulting diptychs shown here were inspired by the traces of wear and tear by weather and usage left in the building of the old waterworks, which I juxtaposed with analogous structures from nature and the surroundings of the waterworks.
